Letter from the Honorary Chairs of the Campaign
In the summer of 2013 John Hyson, President of the Stockbridge Library Association Board of Trustees, asked our mother, Jane, if she would serve as the Honorary Chair of the Library’s capital campaign. Clearly pleased to have been asked, she said “yes,” anticipating a final opportunity to champion her beloved town by leading the campaign to renovate the Library.
Our mother loved books and was very proud of our Library. She loved its location just down the street from “work” and was a frequent patron. She and our father, Jack, were always generous in their support of the Library and considered it one of Stockbridge’s essential institutions.
You may not know this, but in the fall of 2010 the Museum & Archives mounted an exhibit of Jane’s special occasion clothing, including gowns she wore to presidential inaugural balls. It was a wonderful show, but she sadly was unable to attend. The Library does not have an elevator to the Museum level.
After our mother’s death, we both agreed to step into her shoes (as if anyone could fill them), and serve as the Honorary Chairs of the Library’s capital campaign.
We know our mother would be thrilled to experience the Stockbridge Library as it is envisioned in this case statement, retaining all the charm and warmth it has always had, with access for all guaranteed.
We wholeheartedly endorse and support the Library’s plans and encourage the generous participation of everyone in the community! Each one of us has a role to play in this effort.
We look forward to a very successful campaign!
