February Artist of the Month: Olga Schwede

“Formidable Images”

Olga Schwede

Opening reception: Saturday, February 1, 2014, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Please join us for an opening reception on Saturday, February 1, 2014 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with this month’s featured artist, Olga Schwede.  Ms. Swede was born in Lithuania, lived in Germany as a child, and came to the United States at the age of 13.  Growing up in Northern New Jersey, she attended William Paterson University, earning BA and MA degrees in Special and Elementary Education, and taught for over 33 years.  Ms. Schwede first fell in love with the rich cultural environment of the Berkshires when she attended the Berkshire Choral Festival in 1989.  She has sung with them for more than 20 years.

Art has been and continues to be an integral part of Ms. Schwede’s life, finding expression through music, photography, crafts, writing, and travel.  This led to a more concentrated study of graphite, colored pencils, acrylic, mixed media, decorative painting, and watercolor.  She has studied with numerous master teachers and attended classes and workshops over the past 13 years.

Sharing her art in shows and paint groups with friends and family has given Ms. Schwede the best rewards of joy.  She has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in New Jersey, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.  Ms. Schwede is a member of the South Vermont Arts Center and the Housatonic Valley Art League, and is an elected artist and member of the Kent Art Association.
