The Write Stuff

On Exhibit:

The Write Stuff

On Display in the Lower Lobby and in the Museum & Archives

Long before computers, prior to Sharpies, even before the use of fountain pens, the tools needed to write a note, an invitation, or a bill were distinctive and often elegant.  The Write Stuff combines Richard and Carol Seltzer’s private collection of pens, ink sets, pounce boxes, and lap desks with letters from the Museum’s collection of documents written in the era when these implements were popular.  The exhibit covers a range of items, from simple pewter capstan-style wells and whimsical Staffordshire birds, to small travelers’ inkwells and elaborate brass sets that include a taper and bell to call the servants to post the mail.

The exhibit will open February 13, 2014 and be on display through March 2014.
