Sunday Speaker Series: Stewart Edelstein, Author of Dubious Doublets

Edelstein-DubiousJoin in the fun at the Stockbridge Library on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 4:00 p.m., for Stewart Edelstein’s interactive and entertaining presentation based on his book, Dubious Doublets: A Delightful Compendium of Unlikely Word Pairs of Common Origin, from Aardvark/Porcelain to Zodiac/Whiskey, published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  He will trace back seemingly unrelated modern English words through the millennia to reveal their common roots and the living thoughts forming the true links between improbable word pairs – such as advertisement/worm, algebra/artichoke, carrot/hornet, witch/vegetable, and everyone’s favorite, feather/hippopotamus.
