Cemetery Tour: The Cemetery’s Story: Its Life and Times

Cemetery-5On Saturday, October 11, 2014, at 4:00 p.m., volunteers from the Stockbridge Library’s Museum & Archives will present the last cemetery tour of the 2014 season: The Cemetery: Its Life and Times.

From the earliest days of the town, cemetery issues—its size, appearance, and upkeep—were an important part of town life.

Come learn how space was added; what angry words were said about its care; and its role in the first village beautification society. Step inside the vault and see where bodies were stored in cold weather.  Though a quiet and peaceful space, this corner of Stockbridge has had a major impact on the town and beyond.

The tour gathers at the cemetery gate on Main Street (Route 102), Stockbridge. Parking is available at the old Town Hall, across from the gate. A $5.00 donation is requested.
