Art Reception

During the month of August, the Stockbridge Library, Museum & Archives will host an exhibit of framed prints of the winning submissions from the Laurel Hill Association and Stockbridge Land Trust’s first photo contest.  A reception will be held on August 5, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for the contest winners.  All are welcome; admission is free.

“The contest celebrates Stockbridge’s natural beauty and supports our organizations’ conservation efforts,” said contest coordinator Stewart Edelstein, who is a board member of both the Stockbridge Land Trust and the Stockbridge Library Association. “The contest was wonderfully successful. We received 140 submissions, and the judges had a real challenge picking five winners from all of the excellent photos.”

The winning photos were taken by Dana Goedewaagen, of Glendale; Stacy McMahon, of Great Barrington; John R. Morse, of Stockbridge; and Sharon Siter, of South Egremont. The photos show the Mary Flynn Trail; the Housatonic River as it courses through Stockbridge; Konkapot Brook, with Ice Glen and Beartown Mountain in the background; the Children’s Chime Tower by the Congregational Church in Stockbridge; and the Cat and Dog Fountain at the intersection of Route 7 and Main Street in Stockbridge.

Three volunteer judges, Michael Flower, Doug Munson, and Gege Kingston, selected the winning photos. They also chose nine honorable mention photographs. All the winning photos and honorable mention photos can be viewed at laurelhillassociation.org.

Each winning photo is printed on the front of a notecard, and a relevant quotation appears inside. The notecards will be sold in packets containing one of each photo. All proceeds from the sale of the cards will go to Stockbridge Land Trust, whose mission is to preserve the natural, historic, and community resources in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, and to Laurel Hill Association, whose mission is to do such things as shall serve to improve the quality of life and of the environment in Stockbridge.
