Cemetery Walk: Church Street: Home of the Famous and Memorable

Come meet the fascinating people of Church Street. On Saturday, August 5 2017 at 4:00 p.m. volunteers from the Stockbridge Library’s Procter Museum & Archives will present Church Street: Home of the Famous and Memorable.

So many stories for such a short street!  Come learn about the Mahican Indians, the street’s first settlers; George Seeley, renowed photographer; and Augustus Lukeman, sculptor and colleague of Daniel Chester French.  Along the way, you’ll hear the stories of a one-legged barber, a blind cook, a tuba-playing plumber, a jolly nurse, and a door-to-door fish monger.

The walk gathers at the cemetery gate on Main Street (Route 102, Stockbridge), and lasts one hour. Parking is available at the old Town Hall, across from the gate, or on the street. A $5.00 donation is suggested.

This is the third of four monthly walks of the Stockbridge Cemetery, June through September.  Each monthly walk has a different theme.  All walks take place on the first Saturday of the month, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
