Poet Edward Hirsch Online Conversation with André Bernard

The Stockbridge Library invites you to an online conversation with Poet Edward Hirsch and Stockbridge Library Board Member André Bernard on Friday, May 15, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.

Edward Hirsch is one of America’s foremost poets.  A MacArthur “genius” Fellowship recipient, he is the author of the beloved national bestseller “How To Read A Poem And Fall In Love With Poetry,” as well as of six books of poetry, five works of criticism about poetry, and many poetry anthologies.  His work covers the entire range of human emotion, from his ecstatic joy in the collection “Wild Gratitude” to the grief of “Gabriel: A Poem,” about the death of his 22-year-old son, which was described as “a masterpiece of sorrow” in a profile of Hirsch in The New Yorker.

A new collection of poems, “Stranger by Night,” has just been published by Alfred A. Knopf.  Hirsch has won many important prizes for his work, including the Rome Prize from the American academy in Rome, the National Book Critics Circle Prize, a Pablo Neruda Presidential Medal of Honor, and a Guggenheim Fellowship.  A former Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets, he is a member of the American Academy of Arts And Letters.
