Artist Statement:
I’m an artist who has always been drawn toward still life subject matter, and especially the mid-twentieth century realist painters who employed simplified forms and varying viewpoints in a single painting. I enjoy bringing rich colors and textile surfaces into my paintings, prints, and collages. With a strong maternal line and influence, the domestic setting and ideas of home are standard in my work. Repeat patterns of textiles, often relief printed, play a part in my compositions. Still life provides not only a means of exploring composition and color, but also to examine the meaning of place, relationships, scarcity and abundance.
I began my studies of Fine Art at Indiana University, earning a BFA degree with a specialty in Textile Design, which included print design. Further lifelong studies have primarily been in painting and printmaking (Joan Griswold, Jenny Nelson, Zea Mays Printmaking Studio, and others). I maintain a studio here in Stockbridge, and am represented in the Berkshires by Lauren Clark Fine Art.
