At 5AM on 31 August 1896, the fire alarm in town was sounded. The Plumb Hotel, also known as the Stockbridge House and Red Lion Inn, caught fire in the kitchen and burned to the ground. The building’s absence along Main Street left a literal and figurative hole. Luckily, within a year the building was reconstructed and back in business. – August 31, 2025
