Today when we check out a book at the circulation desk, the librarian scans it and we are on our merry way. But in days gone by, one of the joys of looking through a book was the check-out card in the back.
Sometimes the card itself told a story of its own. It showed you how often, or not, the book was out, and if one of your friends or relatives had already read the book.
Recently one such card was found in a book from the book sale, and a certain M. Rockwell checked out Dodsworth by Sinclair Lewis. A few weeks before that Mrs. Chauncey Loomis also checked out the book. Quite the popular read! — February 4, 2026
