Read to a Dog Program

As part of our Tails and Tales summer reading program, children can sign up for 10-minute time slots to read aloud to Toby, a 14-year-old labrador retriever on the front lawn of the Stockbridge Library! Toby is a registered therapy dog with Pet Partners and will be joined by his owner Ruth Francis.

Reading to a dog helps developing readers improve fluency, increase confidence while reading aloud, and supports the enjoyment of reading! Children who are not yet reading independently can still sign-up and have a parent/caregiver read aloud to both them and Toby.

Children are encouraged to bring their own favorite book to read to Toby, but can also arrive early to check out a book from the Stockbridge Library. Rain will move the event indoors.

Registration is required. Toby will be visiting on:

Friday, July 16th from 10:30 to 11:30

Saturday, August 7th from 10:30 to 11:30

Friday, August 13th from 10:30 to 11:30

Please click on the date you’re interested in and you will be brought to the event page with a link to sign up.
