Thursday, November 25, 1965, there was no dump open for Arlo Guthrie and Richard Robbins to dispose of the trash from the Thanksgiving dinner that had been prepared by their friend, Alice Brock. Now, 60 years later, we still hear the familiar refrain, “You can get anything you want at Alice’s restaurant.”
The story of Arlo, Richard, Alice, and Obie is as iconic to the town of Stockbridge as Norman Rockwell and Stockbridge Bowl. So long as there is Thanksgiving, there will be Alice’s Restaurant. — November 27, 2025
