Deborah Greene – February Artist of the Month

“Ukrainians and Their Pets, Watercolor Studies of Love and Resilience,” captures intimate moments between Ukrainians and their animals since that country was invaded in February 2022. Created by Lenox native Debbie Hanson Greene, the series depicts families fleeing their homes with their pets to face uncertain futures, while soldiers and civilians rescue abandoned pets along the front lines. “Ordinary people can do extraordinary, heroic acts in times of crisis,” says Greene. The exhibition lists verified non-profit organizations that support animal rescue in Ukraine and around the world. Greene hopes the exhibition creates awareness and compels people to “remember the animals.”
