Stitching Seams – Museum & Archives Exhibit

Event Categories:

On Saturday, August 10, from 9am-2pm, Adrian will be on hand in the Museum to answer questions about the exhibit itself or the items on display.

Our human experiences are lived out every day in fabric and cloth; whether we make our clothing or buy it from a shop, we use textile for its form, function and to articulate our individual expression. The making of clothing is deeply embedded within the history of artisanal production, creative purpose, commerce, design, and labor rights, thereby making the simple stitch of needle and thread a powerful and compelling storyteller.

This exhibit includes clothing items that reflect different eras, materials, and fabrication techniques. Explore how these garments were seamed together and dive a little deeper into the fabric of their stories and the people who made them. Remember that even today, all clothing is handmade by someone, somewhere.

This exhibit was prepared and researched by Adrian Rhind, 2024 Collections Management Summer Intern in collaboration with Andrea Caluori, Collections Steward.
