The Stockbridge Library Association is pleased to host best-selling author and Stockbridge resident Robert D. Kaplan for a presentation about his new book, The Good American: The Epic Life of Bob Gersony, the U.S. Government’s Greatest Humanitarian. He will be in conversation with writer John Felton via Zoom on Saturday, March 13th at 3:00 p.m.
Kaplan’s previous presentations have been among the most popular in recent years at the library. The Good American: The Epic Life of Bob Gersony, the U.S. Government’s Great Humanitarian — Kaplan’s first-ever biography — profiles the decades-long, behind-the-scenes work by a little-known State Department consultant. Gersony’s work in war zones around the world, including his recommendations based on interviews with refugees and displaced persons, helped change U.S. government policy and saved many lives.
Former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis has said of the book: “For anyone who has stopped believing that one person can make a difference, or that government service is still a noble calling, or that facts still matter, or that the American brand can still hold fast to practical idealism, this book is the antidote to those fears.”
